Through a series of games in urban spaces, the aim is to find out how kids see the places where they live and, above all, how they want them to be in the future.

This experience, which has also taken place in Ribeira and A Pobra do Caramiñal, is sponsored by the Association for the Defense of the Galician Cultural Heritage, chaired by Carlos Fernández Coto

It seems obvious, but too often it is forgotten. Last year, Vilagarcía provided a rare opportunity to put into practice a simple and sensible principle. For several days, fifty kids took the streets and squares as could only be done when cars did not yet dominate the urban space. That experience, carried out under the direction of the architect Sandra González Álvarez, is now summarized in a book that the Council will distribute through schools and social centers.”

The Councilor for Mobility, Paola María, highlighted in the presentation that it is an idea very much in line with our city model because the concept of the city is not achieved only with works, but with awareness, especially of the children who will be the future mayors of these cities. In Europe, it is conveyed to us that the well-being of cities is measured in public spaces for people. We believe that the most important thing is to live in cities and enhance the interaction of the children with cities.

The publications are financed by European Feder funds and will be distributed both by the educational centres and by the neighbourhood centres of the town.”

Hand in hand with the program developed by the architect Sandra González Álvarez, the children worked in this space with the line, the plane and the three-dimensional element, imagining what the city of tomorrow would be like, in which they raised many gardens and a Vilaking.”

Drivers asked themselves that question days ago, when signs appeared announcing that parking in the Plaza da Independencia was going to be prohibited. They asked with the same perplexity with which a woman, yesterday afternoon, looked at the tangle of coloured threads that cross the square in all directions. I did not know it, but those brightly coloured strings are part of a time machine that will transport more than three hundred schoolchildren from the neighboring San Francisco School to A Vila do mañá over the next few days.

Thus, children go back to playing in the street, as was usual until not so many years ago.”
