Sandra González, creative architect and coordinator of this didactic and recreational activity, explains that “A Vila do Mañá” is in the field of architecture. “We are architects and we believe that cities were built with the value of money as a background”.
González asks himself “and have we changed that concept of the city? For a week we were going to be in Barbadás to see the city with the two smaller ones, let them tell us how they are in their village, in their city, see how they act, what elements are important to them”.
The coordinator of the Vila do Mañá states that “we have a complicated challenge, or I wish to carry out a participation project like this one, boys and girls have to live, to enjoy, to transform it”.
From the 26th to the 30th of June “there will be a safe area, it will be transformed into a street, whose metade will be validated and the children will experience the area through sex and entertainment,” explains Sandra González.
Or that it is intended as a project to recover the city for future citizens.

How can we recover the identity of our peoples? How could they become a meeting and exchange place again? Some of these issues led the PØSTarquitectos studio to create the A vila do mañá project, an educational and informative initiative so that, through play, children become aware of all scales of the common: architecture, tangible heritage and intangible, urbanism and landscape.

“The Ministry of Environment, Territory and Housing will study the possibility of collaborating in a new educational project driven from the field of architecture and aimed at Galician children and adolescents.
This is what councilor Ángeles Vázquez and architect Sandra González Álvarez, promoter of the educational and informative initiative A vila do moraan, which has been carried out so far in around 15 Galician municipalities and whose objective is that, from childhood and through play, awareness is created on all scales of common space: architecture, heritage, urbanism and landscape.
In the same way, as he explained to the councillor, it is also sought to bring the architectural discipline to the world of two children so that there is an exchange of knowledge and the professionals can approach the vision of the towns and cities that the new generations have.
To this end, A vila do moraan proposes to carry out a whole series of workshops given by students from the Escola Técnica Superior de Arquitectura, adapted in each case to the age of the two participants and us that the street becomes an authentic operational space, making available to children and teenagers all the necessary tools to develop their creativity from art and architecture.
In this sense, Ángeles Vázquez celebrated that initiatives like this put the focus on urbanism, the landscape and the relationship we have with our environment from a very early age, seeking active involvement by the new generations in the construction processes of neighborhoods, cities and squares and the improvement of abandoned or deteriorated environments due to the impact of so-called urban feism.
For his part, González stressed the importance of contact between different generations to guarantee a two-way learning, because the participating children “discover what is behind two walls” of buildings around them, such as, for example, Casa do Concello.
It should be remembered that the Consellería has also collaborated since 2000 with the Official College of Architects called Project Terra, a program of pedagogical activities that takes place in educational centers throughout Galicia with the aim of educating and generating a critical spirit among Primary and Secondary students in relation to architecture and landscape.”

This informative initiative has already been put into practice in some 15 municipalities in Galicia and its objective is to make the youngest, through play, aware of scales in common spaces: architecture, heritage, urbanism and the landscape
‘Tomorrow’s village’ is developed through workshops taught by students from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura, adapted to the children’s ages, and in which the street becomes an operational space. In this way, young people are given the necessary tools to develop their creativity in art and architecture.

“”A Vila do Mañá” will include workshops for six days
Silleda wants to bring the identity of towns and cities closer through game dynamics for children, in an informative and educational initiative that seeks to raise awareness about architecture, heritage, urbanism and the everyday landscape. The program, named A Vila do Mañá, will take place over a week and is aimed at children between the ages of 5 and 14. It will take place from June 28 to July 3.
This type of informative project, which is equally committed to entertainment and education, was developed in previous years in other Galician towns and also reached cities such as San Paulo in Brazil. The activities will take place through the streets of Silleda, in the morning and afternoon, coordinated by monitors. They will be free for those registered in the municipality, with 40 offers. Starting next week, interested parties will be able to register at the town hall. The program will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., except for the last day on Saturday, which will only be in the morning hours.
A Vila do Mañá is jointly organized by the Departments of Culture, Education and Urban Planning. As a background, it appears to bring the little ones closer to how the identity of the localities can be recovered and that they be a place of meeting and exchange. The educational project was designed by the POSTarqueitectos studio. It is sought that children and adolescents are actively present in the process of building common spaces, providing them with tools to develop their creativity through art and architecture.
The promoter of the initiative, Sandra González, highlighted yesterday during her presentation, accompanied by the councilor for Education, Ángela Troitiño, and Urban Planning, Pili Peón, that “the end is to provoke nefariousness and to awaken a new look at the spaces in which they develop to his life». During those six days, Silleda will become a large game board and experimentation laboratory, transforming the streets into something new to discover if you look at and walk with different eyes. It is made with characteristic elements of the municipality of Trasdeza, as a game of the goose.
The architect Sandra González also stressed that “it is important that from small we know the value of our territory to be aware and know food or tomorrow.” The workshops will be structured through the concepts of perception, space, landscape, scale, sustainability and village, together with tools such as the point, the line, the plane and the three-dimensional.
In short, it seeks to conceive the town as a play space, recovering ideas proposed by the Dutchman Aldo Van Eyck and prizes from Francesco Tonucci, creator of the A cidade dos nenos program, giving prominence to this age group to promote the recovery of the territory for citizens . The program has already been developed successfully in recent years in different parts of Galicia, from Vilagarcía to Carballo, Arzúa or Ames, as well as Arteixo, Rianxo, Malpica, Cambados or Santiago, among others.
