The A Vila do Maña project adapts to the new reality of urban spaces brought about by covid

La Voz de Galicia   22/07/2020                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  More than two thousand children have participated in A Vila do Mañá program, created to design urban spaces in which people are the central axis. The second phase of this initiative will begin to develop now, adapting its programming to the new reality created after the appearance of the coronavirus and to the needed adaption of urban spaces to suit people. In a ceremony held at A Coruña Council, the head of the Culture area of the provincial body, Xurxo Couto, and the project director, Sandra González, took stock of the performance. This meeting was also attended by Carlos Fernández Coto, president of the Association for the Defense of Cultural Heritage of Galicia, as well as the deputy director of International Relations and Studies of the Higher Technical School of Architecture of the University of Coruña, Zaida García Requejo.

The head of the Culture Department of A Coruña Council, Xurxo Couto and the director of the project, Sandra González, took stock of the action in which more than two thousand children from different Galician municipalities have already participated.

Architect Sandra González is the creator of the Vila do Amanhã project, with the proposal to work with children and adolescents on concepts of urbanism, public spaces, a feeling of belonging to the place, among others. The project has already been carried out in several cities in Galicia, Spain, and on the 24th, 27th and 29th of March it will take place at Sesc Santo Amaro.

They will take place on December 30, and January 2, 3 and 4, for kids from 3 to 12 years. Registrations can be made at the Department of Culture. Before visiting the City Council of Malpica, chaired by Walter Pardo, the program has already passed through municipalities such as Rianxo, Ames, A Pobra, Cambados and Arteixo, and has the support of the Higher Technical School of Architecture of A Coruña, the College of Architects of Galicia and Association for the Defense of Heritage

This initiative aims to raise, through game, children’s awareness of architecture, tangible heritage, urbanism and landscape.

Children from 3 to 12 years old will be able to participate, who will have to register previously in the Department of Culture or in the offices of the City council.
